HISTORY

Legacy LA, a Community Partners project, is a grassroots startup organization dedicated to building a legacy of empowerment for the impoverished communities of East Los Angeles at the Hazard Park Federal Armory site. We are a collaborative community organization partnering with the City of Los Angeles with a critical goal to transform a weathered 1950s Armory building and five acres of urban parkland into a state-of-the-art facility offering multifaceted educational, cultural, and recreational services and programs. The collaborative will serve as a new model of youth care to improve the health of at-risk communities by delivering and promoting preventative services.

MISSION

The mission of Legacy LA is to make positive interventions in the lives of young people by offering alternatives to gangs and violence.

 VISION

As a grassroots organization, our key organization initiatives are to (1) promote teens' healthy development through active partnerships with the community; (2) build students' capacity and leadership potential to enable them to positively transform the physical and social environment of their community; and (3) help teens make a difference in their own lives and those of others by planning and implementing community-based project activities in the Ramona Gardens Community.

One of Legacy LA's main goals is to transform the 50,000 square-foot Hazard Park Federal Armory into a state of the art youth facility that will include multifaceted educational, cultural, and recreational services and programs. Legacy LA's youth leaders have worked with the architect to design the renovation of the armory site and are currently involved in designing programs and projects that will take place in the facility.
