Youth Action Center
- a Vocational Center
- an Arts Center
- a Nature Center
- and a variety of other program and services
Some specific programs suggested are:
- A Cyber (Youth-run) Cafe
- A Nature Center dedicated to the study of the wetlands and youth employment and educaiton
- Vocational Training Center connecting youth with Corporate youth development programs
- A Theatre/Media Center, Galleries and Art Walls
- Tutoring and Mentorship Programs led by graduate students, writers, scientists, artists, musicians
- Programs of all sorts geared toward development of decision-making and entrepreneurial skills
- Community services in general including community room
Timeline: Beginning November 2007
Stage One: Planning (18 months): Site Plan; Sustainability Plan; and Agreements negotiated with City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.
Stage Two: Capital Improvements and Limited Programming (12 months)
Stage Three: Full Programming
The complex will focus on connecting youth with educators and health professionals, local artists and nature advocates through education and outreach programs; providing safe after school recreational activities including a computer lab, sound studio and weight training; mentoring by graduate students, writers, artists and musicians; providing training with local service providers and through cooperation with local colleges, schools, and non-profit organizations.
